Leoma Resident Intervenes In Theft, Recovers Property
A Leoma woman was able to intervene when someone stole items from her barn over the weekend, and recover all of her property.
The victim reported the incident through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department on Monday. She told deputies that her sixteen-year-old daughter had watched as a man parked his truck in front of her barn sometime between 2:20 and 2:45 p.m. The man, she reported, went beneath an awning and began carrying items to his truck. He then left.
The victim told deputies that she got into her vehicle and followed him. She was able to stop the man and began questioning him about the incident. She told deputies that the man stated he “had only gotten a few items.” She instructed him to place the items on the roadway and he complied. She then wrote down his license plate number before he drove away. She told deputies that she had been able to retrieve all of her property, including a grease gun, needle nose pliers, hammer and pry bar, valued at $47.
Deputies ran a check on the tag number and were able to obtain a name and address of a suspect in the case. When they made contact with the man, they report that he gave a full confession to the crime, stating that he had returned all the stolen items.
The victim indicated to deputies she was uncertain whether she wished to prosecute.
